ILP 2 "Design" - Prezi

For my ILP 2 I created a Prezi. I created a Prezi about some of the things we learned in this class. I loved using Prezi as I am familiar with how to use it from high school. I talked about DIIGO, web evaluation, word formatting, ISTE standards and more!

Using the data collection and Excel are both very interesting tools. Doing the Data collection in class was the first time I have created a survey using a website. I had so much fun learning how to do this. These tools could be a good way to learn about your students.  A way I could use data collections from my students would be through mini quizzes about the subject matter. This lets you know as a teacher what your students are excelling at and are struggling with. With Excel, it is so easy to keep track of class grades, average, minimums and maximums. We learned how to do this in class and it was very informative.  For example, If I was a math teacher for high school students I would have them learn my lesson through class materials and every week create a data collection survey to see what the students need more help with so we could go over that material more. Then after their grades are sent through, I could import all this data into excel to track the average score of the class and the minimum grades to see if the material was not absorbed thoroughly.

A few topics I found interesting while reading my classmates blogs are flipped classroom and Powerpoint interaction. The reason I found these two topics interesting was because they were the two subjects I found most interesting and it was nice to read other peoples interests in the same topics. For example, flipped classrooms have a range of opinions. Some of the blogs I read believe that a flipped classroom is not the way you should run a classroom environment. On the other hand, some classmates blogged that a flipped classroom helps students be more creative and get more socially involved with their classmates. As for powerpoint there were also a range of opinions. Some of my classmates wrote about powerpoint as not so exciting and they already knew how to use powerpoint. On the other hand there were so many of my classmates who had a similar opinion as me. I thought that powerpoint could do so much more than we knew how to do previously. A lot of my classmates described how much they enjoyed the lessons about powerpoint and could see themselves using powerpoint in their future career as an educator.

I think a technological skill that I would like to learn and become better at is Excel. Excel is a great tool to use in education as a student and a teacher. Excel could also be used in any business industry to handle money and information. I would like to get more educated on all the things that Excel can do. Excel can easily put together any information given to you and analyze things quickly and efficiently. I think that using Lynda would be a great way to learn more about Excel and all the things it can do. Our generation is full of amazing technology and resources that provide help on how to use them.

Hey guys!

Talking about The Flipped Classroom is very interesting. Being part of the flipped classroom involves showing your students information before class. That way when the student comes to class they are aware of the material and want to participate in discussion. Students in a way have to learn and teach themselves information and be prepared for class. They can keep note of what they don't understand and be prepared to ask specific questions in class. I understand the mentality of having a flipped classroom and how it can be beneficial for students. However there are many cons to having a flipped classroom. In reality a lot of students when given work to teach themselves at home, it does not happen. As much as a teacher thinks their students will teach themselves, most probably will not. Therefore this method will only be beneficial to the students who want to teach themselves at home.

OER's are online distributed resources that are free and accessible to everyone. Anyone can use these resources.  The article discussing OER that I chose is "OPEN EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES" by the Hewlett Foundation. This website talks about an overview of OER and their goals. They want to use OER's in K-12 and help students and teacher have open resources to use to increase educational access. The Hewlett Foundation supports people and institutions that promote OER as well as support researchers that spend their time learning about OER's. The Hewlett Foundation says, "In 2002, the Hewlett Foundation began investing in open educational resources (OER), which are high-quality teaching, learning, and research materials that are free for people everywhere to use and repurpose" (Hewlett Foundation).

I learned SO much from the powerpoint assignments! This has been my favorite lesson so far. I learned how to do so many things that I will use in my future and as a student. I always used powerpoints in school but never like this. I learned countless things I can do to my power point to make it interesting and fun. Some of the things I learned were how to record my slide show with  my voice. I never knew how to do this before and I am positive it will come in handy in any career. I also learned how to create my own type of slide and save it so I can use it whenever I want. I thought this was a cool trick that will save time. I learned how to play with animations and navigation buttons that you can make to take you to different places on the slide. That was my favorite thing I learned. If I ever become a teacher I will know how to make my lessons interesting and fun for my students. I can create an entire game for my students that is educational yet fun. I am so glad I took this course because I learn something new and beneficial every class.

Here are screenshots to my powerpoints.

Diigo is a great tool for students and teachers. You are able to use tools such as highlight, annotate, and sticky notes to utilize on any  webpage. You can then show your annotations with any one else that uses Diigo. I was first heard of Diigo in my EME class at FSU. I have learned so much since we started using it. Before this class, I had never heard of Diigo, but now I actually enjoy and get great use out of its tools. I even started using Diigo in my other classes and told another teacher about the webpage and how to Utilize it. It has been a great help to be able to use the sticky note feature in all my classes. I can forsure see myself using Diigo in my future career if I become a teacher. I would use the annotation feature to assign things to my students.

Blooms taxonomy consists of six levels. The levels are create, evaluate, analyze, apply, understand, and remember. I can apply these levels while I use powerpoint. You can use the create level to create a PowerPoint however you choose and design it however you want. You can spend hours on powerpoint figuring out new tools and tricks. Evaluating consists of finding something you are passionate about and something you can defend and show off your knowledge. You must then analyze your information and understand and organize it. To apply means to use this knowledge to your benefit and apply it to the world and your society. Lastly remembering this information is crucial and you should carry on the knowledge you have acquired throughout your life.

Technology helps teachers and students on a day to day basis and it is slowly becoming more and more common to have technology in the classrooms. Technology is such a benefit for students to succeed in school and teachers are a great way to help students learn about different and new technologies. Teacher professional development involves improving your skills as a teacher. Teachers in this new world of constant technology development can never stop learning. A site that offers new technology trends is actually Twitter. There are hundreds of pages on twitter that offer new and improved technology trends that are used in the education system. I have provided a few examples.

I have used Twitter for many years throughout high school. However, I just began using it in my EME class. When I began to use Twitter I learned all the things it can do such as retweeting, liking, and of course hashtags. I used twitter to let my followers know what I was doing and post funny pictures. I also used to to see what my followers were up to. Twitter is beneficial to me because you can keep yourself updated on world news and the news in your social life. Twitter can be negative in the sense of cyberbullying. With any online platform come people who do not know how to use it properly.

I learned so much from the Web Design assignment. I have never created and designed my very own website. I used weebly.com to create my assignment because of how easy and fun it is to use. I took into consideration the CRAP ideologies to make my website the best quality it could be. I learned how to do so many different functions such as add links, add a calendar etc. I love how easy Weebly makes it to navigate and create your own website just the way you want it. This assignment will most definitely prepare me for my future. If I ever become a teacher, I will need to create my own class website. This was amazing practice to learn and create.

  •      Assistive technology a device that can help students with thier learning if they need it. Some examples of assistive technology are text-to-speech and keyboards that are for kids with certain disabilities. In my middle school I knew someone who was partially blind and they used a form of electronic braille to help them with their learning.

I chose to view the class page of Miss Herlihy.
She works at Saint Bridget School and is a 3rd grade teacher.
https://sites.google.com/a/saintbridgetschool.info/miss-herlihy/

She has a masters in elementary education and has a wonderful class page set up. On her class page you can see about 10 different tabs. Some of the tabs include her bio, homework, a weekly schedule, the curriculum, a school calendar, and some resources. She include picture that go along with some of her links to make her page appealing and fun. This page specifically stood out to me because of the fun energy of her page

I will forsure be taking notes on how to make my class page as useful as this one. Parents can be up to date with what is going on in their childs educational life. I would definitely use technology to enhance my teaching career. Using spreadsheets and google docs is a good way to connect with your students. Having your own teach email is VERY important to stay in contact with the parents of your students and I definitely plan to have one and use it to my advantage,

The Sandbox is an incredible place! I have had the pleasure of going to the FSU Sandbox twice. I think everybody finds the 3D pens amazing and intriguing. I know I did! Another thing I loved when touring the sandbox was the amazing improvements they made to smartboards. I remember using smartboards in high school and there was always a problem. After getting to use the smartboards myself at the sandbox, I can say I am amazed at the improvements. I would one hundred percent use a smartboard like the ones at the Sandbox in my classroom. They are fun and interesting to the students and encourage them to wanna learn and participate.

ILP #1 "Participation"

For my ILP I decided to use Lynda to my advantage. FSU provides the Lynda resource. This resource provides tutorials and walkthroughs on how to use and navigate softwares, programs and different technologies. This website provides expert guided tutorials which mean we know that the source is valid and credible. I had so much fun, surprisingly, learning to use Lynda. I definitely recommend using this website to anyone.

I looked through all the possible options that Lynda offered and decided to further learn about PowerPoint. It was almost hard to choose between all the options they offered but I decided Powerpoint would be the smartest choice since I frequently have to use this program for many different classes. The video showed me how to navigate powerpoint and use tools such as annotations, using a timer, speaker notes, presenter view.

What I love most about the Lynda videos is that when I typed in powerpoint, I got over 25 results and videos. This meant that everything I needed to know was covered in the videos. After watching multiple videos I learned things such as how to create business presentation using tools I never even knew about in powerpoint. Another thing I mastered was putting a background in my powerpoint.

Here are some of my log notes I took while watching some of the videos provided on Lynda.
I also took screenshots as I watched through the videos that I found interesting.

Overall, I highly recommend using Lynda to any student in highschool or college. There are limitless videos available in any area you desire. Some of my favorite things that I learned from Lynda were how to create a beautiful business powerpoint. I think this is something I could use in my future. Lynda is an amazing website and the best part is that experts are the ones teaching you.
